Every year our family has watched local fire work displays by climbing out our bedroom window to sit on the roof at the front of our home. As we sit watching the bright colours one of our children will inevitable ask to hear the story about us replacing our shingles. We always tell them how Uncle John and Aunt Alice volunteered to help us do the job back in 1992 on the Victoria Day weekend. We tell our children you were both in your mid to late 60s and you offered to help us without hesitation. Dan and I would watch as you came around the corner and down our street early each morning, loaded up with tools and equipment in your old maroon Dodge Dart, driving up from Toronto. We'd talk about how Uncle John got up on the roof and would direct Dan and Uncle Gary, Aunt Alice and I as we worked through the day. We tell them about sharing laughter and happy times as we worked and later enjoyed lunch and then dinner each day before Uncle John and Aunt Alice would pack up for the day and head home to rest before returning again the next morning. It's a story told each time with the same smiles of admiration and appreciation even to this day, almost 20yrs later. Thank you for these memories.
