Hey Bro. I know u wont get this, but writing it anyway. Still missing u like crazy. Things are going better now, but been a crazy year. I know I don't have to go into details. I hope wherever u are you are still the same happy and upbeat guy you always were. You left a big hole here. Some days I really need my best friend to talk too. I tried talking to u, but its hard. I'm not the most religious type. Wee Ian is getting big so fast! He stated walking, and is going to be hard to catch soon. He's strong and tough headed just like his Uncle Tom. I miss u brother. I will never forget the day I rode home on your bus and met your family. Always makes me laugh thinking about some of the secrets we shared, and the winks in the hallways that followed. The first time I met Tom was 3 years ago, Chelsea my daughter had spent the day at wonderland with him and she brought him home for dinner. I walked into the room expecting to fined to see a boy and to my surprise a man stood before me! a little taken back Chelsea left to change and Tom and I sat on the patio and had our first of many conversations. After about 15 min I realized that there age difference was a non issue, they were 2 peas in a pod with so much in common it was crazy. His sweet smile and sence of humour had me hooked. Many dinners in our home, evenings spent laughing. He pulled out chairs for Chels, seved us all dinner and insisted on cleaning up. The kindness and caring that came from him was beautiful. When ever he popped in and out of our lives it seemed like he had never been gone. My last phone call with him was him telling me he would be coming for dinner very soon. I knew I have to make fried chicken! We miss you sweet boy, you had such an impact on our lives. You will be in our hearts forever. "Morning Ladies, how are you today?" "Wow, did you see that, she was totally checking me out!" was just one of our very first reception desk training that Tom gave me! I was Tom's supervisor and knew that he was one to remember from that day forward. During this first meeting, my cheeks were aching as I tried so very hard not to grin at this boy, who was not so much trying to impress me, but really give me a true flavor of how he won a popularity contest, (that was designed and starred himself) every time he worked the reception desk at OPG. Was I disappointed, not in the slightest, people either loved him or admired his total cheesy conversation, (coupled with the total James Bond eyebrow effect). "Take it easy and call me if you get lost in the building", was another one that was added to the list of stunning retorts that Tom would dish out. He was a people person on every level and I loved that about him from the word go. He didn't so much exist behind the desk on his 2 hr shift, as work it - to his total advantage, it was his throne and he knew every inch of how to work the ladies, be cool to the guys and courteous to the visiting senior staff. Did we butt heads, of course, I would bring him to task about all sorts of issues, but I knew that if I had to have him in the office, I was going to find it really hard not to stay angry with him for something, because he was just growing up and flexing his cheeky boy ways. I would always end up smiling and sending him out of my office and on his way to behave himself or else! He would turn and know I couldn't keep up the sternness thing for long! I was a crap boss!! Tom walked me out of the office for the last time that I worked at OPG and helped me carry my things to the car, he hugged me and wished me well. I received his hug with such pain as I said goodbye to him. Still caring, he said, "Drive carefully home, you have had a massive blow". I gulped at the words as I knew he meant every word and he knew I was in pain. The words Tom said helped me drive home and as I neared my house, I added another skill to Tom's long list of communication skills; a skill that many adults far older than he still cannot grasp which was, sincere compassionate care and concern for all who he came in touch with. Tom was loved by me and he probably never knew how much I appreciated him and his care for all. Thank you Mr & Mrs. Kennedy for Tom, he was a great guy meant for greater things, but lived his life without exception and full to the end. My sincere condolences to all Tom's family. Words cannot describe how sad I felt upon learning the news of Tom’s untimely passing. He was so friendly and accommodating and charming too. I talked to Tom a lot in my role of media on call at OPG; he was always a friendly face when I forgot my access card, and had a terrific sense of humour – especially evident the day my boss and I got stuck in the elevator on the 19th floor at 700 University. Tom was wonderful - comforting and right on top of it. His last words to me were last Thursday, as my colleague and I headed out the door to our annual Energy party – “have a good time at the party ladies.” Tom was "a dude." I will really miss him. He was far to young to go. My condolences to his family and loved ones.
